Bikes in Bakersfield can get free lights for safety and visibility

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - After several fatal accidents involving bicycle riders, cyclists will soon be lighting up to stay safe for free.

Bob Smith with Smith Tech USA donated $1,000 to Bike Bakersfield so they can hand out free lights for their bikes.

The lights will be given away to anyone who shows up with their bike and does not already have a light.

There are four giveaway locations planned for Thursday night between 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.: the corner of Mount Vernon and Niles, the corner of 8th and P streets, the corner of Chester an Roberts and at Bike Bakersfield on Chester Avenue.
