BAKERSFIELD, Calif - Nineties kids will remember picking out VHS tapes from rental stores like Blockbuster. Those days are now coming to an end.
Blockbuster video rental stores in Bakersfield, Delano and Tehachapi closed Sunday night for the final time.
The store offered sales on its inventory of up to 90 percent off.
Blockbuster will continue to have an online transactional streaming video service offering movies viewable on connected devices like computers and smartphones.
Blockbuster will end its retail and by mail DVD distribution operations by early-January 2014. The company will close its approximately 300 remaining U.S.-based retail stores, as well as its distribution centers.
Blockbuster is owned by DISH Network.
