Body found floating in Kern River Weir near Riverview Park

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - On Saturday, at about 1:05 p.m., Bakersfield police officers were sent to the Kern River Weir, near Riverview Park, for a report of a possible deceased person in the water.

Officers said they found an adult male who was dead in the water.

Kern County Sheriff’s Department Search & Rescue personnel arrived and assisted in removing the man's body from the water. Personnel from the Kern County Coroner’s Office also arrive to assist.

Officials said it is unclear how long the body had been in the water and there were no signs of obvious foul play.

The identity of the body has not yet been released. 

The investigation is continuing and the cause of death is pending the results of the investigation by the Coroner’s Office.
