Body of a man found near almond orchard west of Wasco identified

WASCO, Calif. - Kern County Sheriff's Department officials have identified the body of a man found near an almond orchard in a field.
At about 8:45 a.m., detectives received a call that a body was found at Jackson Avenue just east of Rowlee Road near Buttonwillow, west of Wasco.
Detectives have identified the man as 46-year-old Jose Luis Loya-Gutierrez. There was trauma to the Gutierrez's body.
The body was dumped between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
Deputies spoke to a farm laborer, who had located the body while working in the area. Deputies were told the body had not been in the area on the previous day during the late afternoon hours when the field had last been checked.
Detectives responded to the scene and initiated an investigation. The death is being investigated as a homicide.
The Coroner’s Office responded and took custody of the body. An autopsy determined the manner of death to be a homicide.
