BPD: 2 arrests made for DUI violations out of 848 vehicles screened during DUI/DL checkpoint

A total of 848 vehicles were screened

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - On Friday, May 30, 2014, the Bakersfield Police Department Traffic Detail conducted a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint in East Bakersfield.

The DUI/DL checkpoint took place in the 1600 block of Niles Street between 7:00 PM and 2:00 AM on Saturday.

The BPD said that a total of 848 vehicles passed through this location. Eight-hundred, twenty-seven of those vehicles were screened, with the following results: 

  • 2 driving under the influence arrests
  • 2 felony arrests
  • 38 drivers were found not to have a valid driver’s license
  • 29 of those drivers were found to have a suspended license
  • 66 vehicles were impounded
In addition, one driver was arrested for driving a reported stolen vehicle.
This DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint was part of a series of enforcement and education efforts conducted by the Bakersfield Police Department Traffic Detail in an effort to reduce the number of persons injured or killed each year in DUI related collisions. A major component of this enforcement effort is to increase awareness of the dangers of impaired driving and to encourage sober, designated drivers.
The public is encouraged to help keep roadways safe by calling 911 if they see a suspected impaired driver.
