BPD: 4 DUI arrests out of 1499 vehicles screened during DUI, DL checkpoint

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - On Saturday, May 17, 2014, the Bakersfield Police Department Traffic Detail conducted a DUI / Driver License Checkpoint southbound in the 5000 block of California Avenue, between the hours of 7:00 PM and 2:00 AM. 

A total of 1529 vehicles passed through this location. 1499 of those vehicles were screened, with the following results:

  • 4 DUI arrests
  • 21 drivers were found to not have a valid driver license
  • 7 of those drivers were found to have suspended license
  • 22 vehicles were impounded
The BPD said officers released nine vehicles which had been held for driver license violations.
This DUI/Driver License Checkpoint was part of a series of enforcement and education efforts conducted by the BPD Traffic Detail in an effort to reduce the number of people injured or killed each year in DUI related collisions.
A major component of this enforcement effort is to increase awareness of the dangers of impaired driving and to encourage sober, designated drivers.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
