BPD arrest man suspected of robbery and carjacking

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Bakersfield Police Officers arrested a suspect involved in several attempted vehicle thefts Tuesday afternoon, near the 3000 block of N. Sillect Avenue, according to officials.

BPD officials first received the call when Edidiong Okon Udo, 29, forcibly attempted to take a victim's car keys.

Shortly after, officials received another call about a carjacking with three juveniles inside the vehicle. The three were safely able to jump out of the car as it was fleeing, just minutes before it crashed at the intersection of 21st Street and D Street.

Not long after that incident, officials received yet another call regarding an attempted carjacking. The suspect allegedly approached a victim inside her car and attempted to take her keys, but was unsuccessful and fled the scene.

He then approached a female on the street, took her purse and car keys, and pushed her to the ground. He was unable to start her vehicle so he fled the scene.

It was then that police were able to locate him, identify him as the culprit behind all the carjacking attempts, and proceeded to arrest him.

Udo now faces charges for multiple counts of robbery, attempted carjacking, kidnapping, vehicle theft, hit and run, and violating his parole.
