BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Bakersfield police are asking for the community's help in identifying and locating a man they say attempted to steal a car in the Sears parking lot located at 3001 Ming Avenue.
The incident happened on Feb. 9 at 9:40 a.m. and police say the man drove into the Sears parking lot and parked next to a white Honda. The man entered the white Honda and attempted to steal the car, but the car was equipped with a club-type steering wheel anti-theft device, police said.
Police said the man then entered the suspect vehicle, which was a previously reported stolen vehicle and fled the scene.
The suspect is described as a white male, in his mid-20’s, 5’8”-10”, thin build, wearing a black baseball cap with blue bill, gray hooded sweatshirt, white t-shirt and blue jeans, police said.
The car he fled in is a black 1998 two-door Honda Civic with California license plate 4AQL843, police said.
