A Bakersfield Police Department officer crashed into another police cruiser Wednesday morning causing a chain reaction where a total of 4 police cruisers were damaged.

At about 8 a.m., four Bakersfield Police Department K-9 officers were driving westbound, in separate vehicles, on Highway 46 near Interstate 5.

As the first three officers stopped for a red light, the fourth officer failed to realize the others were stopping and hit the patrol car in front of him.

This caused a chain reaction crash resulting in damage to all four patrol cars. Three of the cars sustained moderate to major damage and the fourth had minor cosmetic damage.

None of the officers or their K-9 partners were injured and there were no civilian vehicles hit in this collision. The accident investigation was handled by the California Highway Patrol.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to call the California Highway Patrol at (661) 864-4444 or the Bakersfield Police Department at (661) 327-7111.
