BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Wednesday at 11:08 a.m. Bakersfield police officers were dispatched to Bakersfield High School to assist Kern High School District Police Department officers with a minor explosion that had occurred in a welding classroom.
Officers worked together to evacuate the affected classroom and two adjoining classrooms which displaced approximately 90 students for less than a half an hour, police said.
The remainder of the campus was unaffected as a result of this incident.
Bakersfield Police Bomb Squad investigators responded to the scene and took over the investigation.
They inspected evidence and interviewed several students regarding the incident, and investigation has revealed that two students made a device, not amounting to an explosive or a criminal offense, which they detonated, police said.
The students will not face any criminal charges but will face disciplinary action through the school, police said.
This was an isolated incident and there were no injuries and no damaged property to report.
