BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The woman who reportedly made up a story about being raped will not be facing charges from the Bakersfield Police Department, according to the assistant District Attorney.
Bakersfield police responded to the bike path near the 500 block of South Allen Road regarding a sexual assault.
Police say a woman was on the bike path when she said she was accosted before the suspect fled eastbound on foot.
Police say further investigation by detectives revealed the victim's story was fabricated and that the case was unfounded.
When this offense was reported to the Bakersfield Police Department all available resources were allocated to the investigation to aid in the apprehension of the suspect as with all reported incidents of rape.
These resources included but were not limited to the following:
- 30 police officers from patrol including Special Enforcement Officers
- 2 police K-9 units
- 2 detectives
- 3 patrol sergeants
- 2 investigations division sergeants
- 1 police service technician
- off-road vehicle used in the river bottom
Additional resources from allied agencies included the Sheriff’s Department helicopter and personnel, Hall Ambulance and the Kern S.A.R.T. Center.
Bakersfield police dispatchers also rapidly notified all area residents about the offense and suspect description.
The Bakersfield Police Department is conferring with the Kern County District Attorney’s Office to seek charges for filing a false police report in this case.
The Bakersfield Police Department responds to all reports of rape with all available resources.
The police department encourages all victims of rape to immediately report the crime to the Bakersfield Police Department so an investigation can commence in the timeliest manner possible.
