California is continuing to urge residents to consider switching their lawns to drought-friendly plants.
The state is offering an incentive with a rebate program. People who are willing to remove their grass can receive about $1,000 from the state, as long as they follow the right steps.
Some Californians have taken advantage of this program but water officials are trying to encourage more people to consider turning to less water-hungry landscapes this year.
Suzi Williams works at Bolles Nursery. She says even with the incentive, there hasn't been too many people rushing to it.
"I haven't had as many as you would think. There's more criteria to it than just cutting out your lawn and putting down dirt and rocks. They want plant material in there and like I said, it has a little stiffer criteria."
Water officials say now is the ideal time to plant drought friendly plants, as they benefit from rain in winter when they first take root.
