CALIFORNIA CITY, Calif. - The California City Police Department arrested David Smith, 32, of California City in connection with an early morning home invasion robbery, Eric Hurtado of California City Police said.
Officers responded to a home in the 8800 block of Manzanita Avenue for the reported robbery at 4:45 a.m. Sunday, officials said.
The victim told police that he was asleep in his home when he was awakened by the suspect standing over his bed, officials said.
The suspect had apparently entered the house through an open window, officials said.
The suspect simulated having a weapon when he ordered the victim to give him money and belongings. The victim was unharmed during the robbery, officials said.
Police investigated throughout the morning and arrested Smith at his home in the 20500 block of 85th Street. Police were able to recover some of the stolen property. Smith was charged with robbery and burglary and booked into Kern County Jail, officials said.
Smith spent 7 years in State Prison after being convicted for the shooting of a Los Angeles girl in her home in 1999.
