SACRAMENTO, Calif. - It will become easier and cheaper for transgender people to legally change the name and gender on their California birth certificate.
The Governor signed a bill allowing transgender people to change their name on their birth certificate without a hearing in open court.
The bill also allows people to change the gender marker on their birth certificate, simply by bringing a doctor's note.
Once those are complete, a person can legally change other documents, such as their driver's license.
