BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - California's new license plate program featuring cartoon icon Snoopy launched Thursday.
The original drawing of Snoopy by Charles Shulz, who was born in Santa Rosa, will be featured on California car license plates.
The Department of Motor Vehicles will begin issuing Snoopy license plates once it receives 7,500 pre-paid orders.
Proceeds will go to a grant program benefiting California museums and science centers.
“I will proudly display my Snoopy plate on my car to show my support for the many California cultural institutions that will be supported from its proceeds,” said Assembly Majority Leader Toni Atkins.
The plate will cost $50 plus another $48 if motorists want their plate personalized.
