One dead after car hits pedestrian on Oak Street, Chester Lane

Police: drugs or alcohol not involved

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Police Department shut down Oak Street and Chester Lane after a black truck hit and killed a pedestrian Thursday afternoon. 

Police said they received a call around 4 p.m. about a Ford truck that had stuck a man, identified as 17-year-old Aaron Mathew Hafeli. 

According to police, Hafeli died on the scene. 

During the investigation, police closed off the road in both directions diverting traffic away from Chester Lane. 

Police said the driver is cooperating with officers and that alcohol or drugs do not seem to be a factor in the accident.

The BPD is continuing to investigate this situation.
