BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A car related to a homicide investigation in southern Bakersfield has been found abandoned, according to officials from the Bakersfield Police Department.
Fire crews found 56-year-old Clara Basta dead Saturday morning when they responded to a small fire at her home, according to Sgt. Frank Gonzales of the Bakersfield Police Department.
Basta was found in the garage, Gonzales said.
Neighbors who knew Basta said that she had lived in her home for over a decade.
According to a Facebook page that looked like it belonged to Basta, she had worked for the Bakersfield City School district at one point.
On January 9, Basta explained that she was driving again even explaining to friends that they should look out for her as she would be driving a car with the same license plates as the ones described by police.
Police believe Basta did live with a roommate, but was not home at the time of the incident.
The official cause and manner of death is under investigation, officials said.
Police officials said Sunday that Basta's car had been located abandoned, but said not other information is being released at this time.
Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the BPD immediately at (661) 327-7111.
