FRESNO, Calif. - Two California Highway Patrol officers killed when their car flipped over while responding to a crash near Fresno will be remembered Monday in a large ceremony expected to draw visitors from several states.
CHP Officer Axel Reyes says the memorial for officers Brian Law and Juan Gonzalez will be held at the 15,000-seat Save Mart Center in Fresno. The two officers will be buried afterward in separate funeral services.
Reyes says he expects many people to attend the memorial to pay their respects. Gov. Jerry Brown, state Attorney General Kamala Harris and CHP Commissioner Joseph A. Farrow plan to be there.
Law and Gonzalez died Feb. 17 when their patrol car veered off State Route 99 in Kingsburg. They were trying to avoid a person on the highway after the initial crash.
