BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A ground breaking ceremony was held today in honor of the SR-99 widening projects.
On Friday, June 14, the California Department of Transportation held a ground breaking ceremony for the SR-99 north and south widening projects.
According to the projects website, the purpose of this project is to improve traffic operations and safety at this location. The site continues by saying the capacity of this segment of State Route 198 will be increased by converting the existing at-grade intersection to an interchange. This enhancement will upgrade this segment of State Route 198 from an expressway to a freeway, enhancing commuter mobility and daily movement of goods and services.
The ceremony was held at SR-99 and Stockdale Highway interchange in the Park & Ride next to Kaiser Permanente.
