Man shot, killed by deputies in Oildale after chase

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Several streets in Oildale were closed after chase led to a man being shot and killed  by deputies at Beardsley Avenue and Plymouth Street Wednesday night.

The incident began at 10:15 p.m. when a man on a motorcycle refused to pull over, Kern County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Ray Pruitt said.

The driver wrecked the motorcycle and fled on foot with a gun near Beardlsey Market, Pruitt said.

The man was shot one time. He later died at the hospital, Pruitt said.

Detectives are still investigating whether the man fired at deputies. 

The K9 stuck by gunfire is expected to survive. Detectives are still investigating whose fire stuck the dog.

The identity of the suspect has not been released.
