BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -
April is child abuse prevention month and local advocates have new numbers about the size of the problem in Kern County last year.
A total of 32 kids were harmed or mistreated in the county and 31 of those 32 were under the age of four, according to local experts.
There were 5 deaths last year due to abuse and50 kids are day are referred to Child Protective Services in Kern County.
On average 11 of those are confirmed every day.
Child advocates encourage friends and family members to report suspected child abuse especially if the child is four or under because those children are not yet in school and can fall between the cracks.
