ROSAMOND, Calif. - A six-year-old child is dead and four others are hurt after a dump truck collided with a car near Tehachapi.
On Sunday, April 7, at about 5:30 p.m., officials with the California Highway Patrol went to the intersection of Willow Springs Road and Backus Road between Tehachapi and Rosamond regarding a deadly crash.
According to a witness CHP talked to, the truck failed to break for a stop sign while heading West on Backus Road. It entered the intersection and hit a black Lexus car.
Officials said six-year-old Nickolas Lee Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.
California Highway Patrol told 23 ABC the driver of the car was airlifted to a hospital in Antelope Valley. Three others including the driver of the truck were transported by ambulance.
"The vehicle failed to stop for a posted stop sign, crossed the intersection and struck a black Lexus that was traveling Southbound on Tehachapi Willow Springs road," said Sgt. Maria Pagano with CHP. "Both vehicles collided in the intersection and in turn came to rest on the Southwest dirt area there."
CHP said traffic in the area was backed up as emergency services cleared the intersection.
