CHP cracks down, puts over 120 unsafe semis out of service on the Grapevine

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - About 19,000 semi trucks travel over the Grapevine each day, and the California Highway Patrol is cracking down on them to make sure they are being safe on the road.
The CHP has conducted over 14 surprise strike force operations since May.
During that time they inspected 720 semi-trucks.
As a result of those inspections, 17% have been put out of service for unsafe operation.
More than 500 violations were found, and 250 citations were issued.
In 2010, 33% of trucks were put out of service in the same operation.
The CHP said the decrease is a direct impact of increased enforcement and partnership with the California Trucking Association.
