CHP is escorting 500 vehicles at a time in both directions

The California Highway Patrol is conducting escorts through the Grapevine in both directions due to snow and ice.
Interstate 5 was closed at about 4 p.m. Friday by the CHP.
Hundreds of vehicles were trapped and camped out in nearby restaurants and gas station.
However, by 9 p.m. CHP began escorting 500 vehicles at a time in both directions.
