You can help a local child in need this holiday season during a special event hosted by the Bakersfield area office of the California Highway Patrol.
Organizers say the "CHiPs for KiDs" Toy Drive will make the holidays brighter for disadvantaged and hospitalized children in Kern County.
The annual event has been helping families throughout California for more than 10 years -- with local officers joining forces this year with Kern County organizations and businesses to give less fortunate kids something to smile about this holiday season.
The Toy Drive will begin Monday, November 18, 2013 and end Monday, December 16, 2013. The public can help by bringing a new unwrapped toy to the C.H.P. Office on Buck Owens Boulevard, Motor City (in the Bakersfield Auto Mall), the Bakersfield Californian, and the United Way.
On Friday, December 6, officers will be at Motor City -- located at 3101 Pacheco Road -- from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Thursday, December 12 at the Bakersfield Californian from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. for toy drop off events.
Organizers say you can deliver your new unwrapped toy and be on your way in minutes. Officers will also provide free hot chocolate, coffee, food and candy canes to individuals making a donation.
The toys collected from the Toy Drive will benefit Kern County children from 0 to 16 years of age.
