The California Highway Patrol responded to a two-car head-on collision near State Route 178 near the Kern River Powerhouse, according to the CHP website.
The CHP reports two cars were traveling eastbound on SR 178 then turning westbound when they struck each other head on at approximately 4:50 p.m.
CHP reported people were pinned inside the vehicles. An ambulance and CHP officials are working the scene.
All lanes were temporarily blocked at the mouth of the canyon, but they are back open.
