BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield City Attorney's office has filed the first of at least five lawsuits against medical marijuana dispensaries.
The lawsuit against Healthy Life Center in central Bakersfield comes as the city's ordinance banning medical marijuana dispensaries is being challenged in the 5th District Court of Appeal in Fresno.
The dispensaries were chosen based on a number of complaints from residents, neighboring businesses and calls made to the Bakersfield Police Department.
The other four dispensaries the city is targeting are Safe Agricultural Farmers Exchange Collective, Green Earth Remedies II, Green Planet Alternative and One Drop Collective.
