Cold causes problems in Tehachapi closing one school and cancelling planned utility work

TEHACHAPI, Calif. - The cold is already causing problems in Tehachapi.

There was no school at Tompkins Elementary today.

That’s because a gas leak forced crews to shut off the school’s gas main and the classrooms were too cold to teach.

Crews are working on the problem and they hope to have the school open again on Monday.

Also in Tehachapi, Southern California Edison canceled a planned power outage for Sunday because they were afraid people wouldn’t be able to stay warm.

They had planned to do scheduled maintenance on the system.
