BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Two waste collection groups will help Bakersfield residents in disposing of bulky, unwanted household items on Saturday.
Kern County Waste Management Department and Kern Refuse Haulers are joining forces by hosting a Bulky Waste Collection Event on Saturday, Oct. 20.
Residents living in the Metro-Bakersfield area with bulky items can stop by at any three drop-off location from 8 a.m. to noon.
One of the goals of this program is to help clean up illegal dump sites.
Bulky items, such as appliances, mattresses and furniture make up more than 50% of the waste found at illegal dump sites. Bulky waste collection events are a pro-active method for addressing a major portion of the illegal dumping waste stream.
Residents can bring large household items like appliances and furniture to North High School at 300 Galaxy Ave., Kern County Fair at 1142 South P Street, or Kern Medical Center on 1830 Flower Street.
The Salvation Army and Goodwill Industries, Inc. have also agreed to be available to accept donations of items that can be reused.
