Community leader, Audrey Chavez, gets needed blood for health

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A community leader is doing better after family and friends showed continuous support through her recovery.

Loved ones rallied to get Chavez the four pints of A-positive blood that was required for her health.

Audrey Chavez, the found of the Bakersfield Aids Project and Ricky's Retreat, fell ill on Monday and was in desperate need of blood.

Chavez was receiving treatment at the San Joaquin Community  Hospital.
