Coroner: Man found dead in brush fire was murdered

ARVIN, Calif. - A man whose body was found during a brush fire in Arvin in August was murdered, before the suspect tried covering up the crime with a fire.

The coroner said 37-year-old Oscar Garcia was killed by blunt-force trauma to the head and asphyxiation.

Fire crews responded to a brush fire in early-morning hours and discovered the body.

Garcia was found in a field on the north side of Bear Mountain Boulevard just east of Deer Trail Drive.
