BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Motorists are advised that the westbound on-ramp from Cottonwood Road to State Route 58 will be closed Thursday, Jan. 16 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. for roadway repair.
Motorists should also anticipate nighttime lane closures for the inside travel lanes on State Route 58 in the vicinity of Cottonwood Road, Wednesday and Thursday night, Jan, 15–16.
The lane closures are necessary to allow the contractor for the State Route 58 Gap Closure project to work on the bridges crossing over Cottonwood Road. These lane closures will affect both eastbound and westbound traffic and will be in effect between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., each night. At least one travel lane will remain open in each direction while work is underway.
The contractor will also need to close Cottonwood Road at State Route 58, between the hours of 8:30 p.m. and 6 a.m., both nights. Cottonwood Road will also be closed Tuesday night, Jan. 21 from 8:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Motorists needing to cross the freeway during this closure can detour around the area by using either Madison Street to the west or Washington Street to the east of Cottonwood Road.
During daytime hours, the contractor continues to work within the freeway median. This work is being performed behind concrete barriers and is not expected to impact traffic; however, motorists should remain alert while traveling through the area and watch for construction personnel and vehicles that may be entering or leaving the freeway from the median.
The Thomas Roads Improvement Program apologizes for any inconvenience this work may cause the traveling public. For additional information on the State Route 58 Gap Closure Project, please visit our website at www.BakersfieldFreeways.us.
