DELANO, Calif. - A senior center is a "total loss" following an early morning two-alarm fire in Delano.
The fire started at 4:14 a.m. Thursday morning in the 400 block of Jefferson Avenue. According to the Kern County Fire Department, crews saw a large amount of smoke in the area and called for a second alarm.
By the time crews arrived, approximately 50% of the roof was on fire. Firefighters initially went into the building, but were later called back for their own safety.
According to Kern County Fire Department spokesperson Corey Wilford, fire crews then shifted into a defensive action and attacked the fire from the outside. Wilford also says approximately 80% of the building's roof collapsed.
Firefighters are still on scene of the fire and will continue to extinguish and overhaul the building and its contents.
No injuries have been reported.
