Buck Owens' Crystal Palace celebrates birthday

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A county music and Bakersfield landmark celebrated a birthday Wednesday.

Buck Owens' Crystal Palace opened October 23, 1996, making it 17 years old.

Buck Owens closely guided the construction of the county music hall, restaurant and museum.

The Crystal Palace has hosted numerous big county concerts.

Buck Owens moved to Bakersfield in 1951. He felt at home among the farms, oil industry, Dust Bowl-era refugees and country music scene.

Owens' musical career proliferated in the '60s and '70s.
