CSU Bakersfield students lined up Sunday evening at JCPenney for its first-ever Suited Up event. The store offered students a special 40% discount on all professional attire.

“Statistics show that when you dress professionally, you do better. So if students feel comfortable and confident when they’re walking into a career expo, they’re going to perform better as well as kind of give off an era of confidence when they walk into a room or are speaking to professionals,” said Jill Lackey.

One graduating student stocked up for a brighter future.

“I’m entering the professional work force. I need professional work wear to look the part [and] be presentable. I’m going to be meeting a lot of clients so this is going to help me out a lot because I’m just starting out don’t have a lot of resources. So, this a great opportunity to build my wardrobe,” said CSU Bakersfield student, Nick Fequiere.

Like other students, he is grateful for the special discount, as well as others.

Men learned how to tie ties and put together an outfit.

“It’s also increasing collaboration with faculty and staff as they volunteer their time to be professional shoppers for students and really help guide them in their transition and pick out professional career wear,” said Lackey.

The women received free mini makeovers at Sephora and salon consultations.

With the huge discount, students were able to buy a jacket, skirt, shirt and shoes for as low as $100. A deal and partnership, CSU Bakersfield hopes to continue with JCPenney.
