BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - One of the most notorious stretches of highway in Kern County is now a lot safer.

The Highway 46 widening project is now complete.

The dangerous two lane highway now has four lanes and a wide median, making for a safer drive between the Central Valley and the Central Coast.

There are future expansion plans for Hwy 46, east of I-5, however, that stretch of Roadway isn't expected to be completed for several years.
