DELANO, Calif. - After nearly two years the Community Correctional Facility in Delano is reopening today.
The facility was closed in 2011 as part of prison realignment.
The facility is receiving its first 84 inmates today and should have more than 200 by the end of the week.
Eventually the facility west of Delano will hold 578 inmates.
Assemblymember Rudy Salas celebrated the opening of the facility today saying it will strengthen Delano's economy and make our streets safer.
We spoke to one returning correctional officer who says she is thrilled to be back at work she says she had difficulty while she was off because she lost her benefits.
The correctional officer says she gave birth to her child and racked up thousands in hospital bills because she didn't have health insurance.
