Delano will have no cooling center for seniors as weather turns dangerously hot

DELANO, Calif. -

Senior citizens in Delano have a long hot weekend ahead of them.

There will be no cooling center there this weekend.

When the Delano senior center burned down may 30th the second biggest city in kern county lost the location for its cooling center.

Seniors are one of the most vulnerable groups to heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

The Ellington Community Center in Delano was open today so seniors did have a place to go and get cool but the center will be closed this weekend. That’s two long hot days seniors will have to fend for themselves.

Delano senior citizens are already planning ways to stay cool this weekend.

Delano officials hope they can get a grant to set up a cooling center somewhere in town for the rest of the summer.
