MOJAVE, Calif. - A registered sex offender from Los Angeles County was arrested in Kern County, according to deputies.

On Feb 20, deputies from the Mojave and Boron substations conducted sex registrant compliance checks in the Mojave, Boron and North Edwards area.

Officials said a total of 14 residences were checked by deputies.  11 registrants were found to be in compliance with registration requirements, according to officials.

The deputies said two registrants were found to be out of compliance and their cases are being submitted to the District Attorney’s office for filling of criminal charges.

During the checks, officials said they received information from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department regarding a possibly sex registrant, 69-year-old Thomas Wheetman, living in the North Edwards area that was previously registered in Los Angeles County.  According to officials, Wheetman had failed to register his new address in Kern County.

Deputies said they went to a house in North Edwards and found Wheetman.

Officials said Wheetman was arrested and booked into the Mojave Jail for failing to register as a sex offender in his new county.
