OILDALE, Calif. -

Deputies wrestled a knife out of a teen's hand after she was found cutting herself.

On March 13, at about 11:00 p.m., deputies went to a closed business on Oildale Drive in Oildale, regarding a female cutting herself with a knife.

When they arrived, deputies said they found a 16-year-old female holding a large knife to her throat. She had what appeared to be self-inflicted cuts to her arms.

Deputies tried to talk her into putting the knife down, so she could receive medical attention. According to officials, she refused to put the knife down or respond to the deputies at all.

After about 10 minutes of trying to get the female to drop the knife, the deputies seized an opportunity to quickly wrestle the knife out of her hand.

None of the deputies or the female were injured while she was being disarmed.

The female was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of the cuts to her arms. A member of the Kern County Mental Health Evaluation Team responded to evaluate and treat the female for any potential mental health issues.
