BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A man is recovering in a Bakersfield-area hospital after Kern County Sheriff's deputies say he crashed a stolen motorcycle during a high-speed chase.
Sheriff's officials told 23 ABC News the chase started just after midnight Tuesday morning, after deputies noticed the suspect, 22-year-old Dalton Thessen, driving the stolen motorcycle near the intersection of SR 65 and 7th Standard Road.
According to officials, Thessen refused to pull over and led patrol units on a short pursuit, which came to an end on Panorama Drive & Bucknell Street after the driver lost control and crashed. Officials then said Thessen tried to flee the scene, but a Sheriff's K-9 unit stopped him.
Thessen was taken to Kern Medical Center with unknown injuries. Thessen will be booked into the Kern County Sheriff's Office Central Receiving Facility for grand theft auto, possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, assault on a police canine and receiving stolen property.
