Before Derek Carr was leading the Raiders to the playoffs and revitalizing a franchise, he was a quarterback at Fresno State and father to a child with medical issues.

While attending Fresno State, Carr's son was being treated for a stomach issue -- where the boy's intestines were essentially tangled up.

Numerous hospital stays, endless doctor's visits, and the worry of a father were made easier, he says, thanks to those caring for his son.

That personal life experience, dealing with Valley Children's Healthcare, helped lead to today's announcement -- a partnership between Derek and his brother David Carr and Dignity Health.

The partnership between the Carrs and Dignity will see them be spokesmen for the hospitals, make appearances, and be stewards for Dignity.Having been directly impacted by the help of medical professionals at Valley Children's Healthcare, Derek Carr has a special place in his heart for those who give their lives helping others.

According to a press release from Dignity, the Carr brothers will "be adding to their strong partnership with Valley Children's Healthcare and continued commitment to the health of our Valley with the unveiling of a new partnership with Mercy and Memorial Hospitals."
