Desert tortoise found in Bakersfield

Tortoise was the size of a watermelon

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A local man found a desert tortoise on the side of the road on Wednesday night.

Richard Buehrer found a desert tortoise sleeping in a flower bed on the side of a road off Panorama and Fairfax.

The wildlife was about the size of a watermelon.

Desert tortoises are native to the Mojave Desert and are considered a wild animal.
