Dream Center for foster children, teens relies on donations to bring holiday spirit

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Volunteers are working hard to make Christmas a little brighter for Kern County foster kids.

There are as many as 2,200 kids in the foster care system in Kern County at any time.

Many of these kids would have no presents on Christmas morning without the work of the Dream Center and the volunteers to help them.

On Monday Betsy Dunkel and her mother Margaret Van brought blankets to the to the Dream Center to be handed out in time for Christmas.

Ten bikes cast and crew of NCIS Los Angeles.  Those were part of a larger donation of 50 that were donated to CASA Kern County. Bakersfield teen Mason Pawsey built the bikes as part of his Scout project.

People at the Dream Center say often times they are the only family Kern County foster kids have.

They also help older kids transition into adulthood.
