BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A driver careened off Highway 58 in East Bakersfield early Tuesday morning -- spending more than two hours trapped in his upside-down vehicle before finally being discovered.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened on westbound Highway 58 west of the Weedpatch Highway exit.
The driver -- who hasn't been identified -- told rescuers he hit a speed sign at about 5:00 a.m. Tuesday and flipped his GMC pickup truck several times.
The car then slid about 30 feet down an embankment before coming to rest behind Journey Air Conditioning Company on Michigan Street.
The accident wasn't discovered until 6:54 a.m.
The victim suffered major injuries, including significant blood loss. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
