BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Bakersfield City and Kern County firefighters braved down power lines to extinguish a raging fire at a home in East Bakersfield.
The fire started at about 2:30 a.m. Monday in the 1000 block of Pacific Street, according to Bakersfield Fire Battalion Chief Gary Turner.
When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a makeshift garage engulfed in flames and spreading to the home's attic. A motor home was also on fire, along with nearby power poles.
"We had multiple [power] lines down in the back, electrical lines, which hindered our firefighter effort in the back," said Turner.
According to Turner, the fire destroyed the garage and motor home. It burned about 50 percent of the house, which was vacant at the time of the blaze.
There are no reports of any injuries and there are no damage estimates. Officials say the cause of the fire is suspicious in nature and arson investigators are currently on scene.
