BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Several local agencies are joining forces right now in an effort to keep our youth off the streets and out of gangs.

The Kern County Network for children is hosting the Youth Gang Prevention Summit.

Several agencies including local law enforcement are teaming up to explore the nature of youth gang life.

According to the 2008 to 2010 California Healthy Kids Survey, eight percent of Kern's seventh grade students considered themselves as gang members.

And community activists say gang members are responsible for the majority of serious crimes committed by youth.

The summit was held at the Larry E. Reider Education Center located on K Street.
