Family files claim against city over slain police informant Jorge Ramirez

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The family of a police informant shot and killed outside a Bakersfield hotel earlier in the year has filed a legal claim against the city.

The claim was filed Friday on behalf of Jorge Ramirez's family, arguing police knew their informant was in the car with Justin Harger, the man they wanted to arrest.

Harger was wanted for assault with a deadly weapon.

According to police, Ramirez was giving bursts of incomplete information that night to police on Harger's whereabouts.

Harger and Ramirez both exited a vehicle at the Four Points Sheraton and Harger opened fire on officers. Officers returned fire, and both Harger and Ramirez were shot and killed, officials said.
