Family, Superintendent settle for $25k after special needs student left on bus for 6 hours

BAKERSFIELD - The case of a boy left on a school bus for six hours will not go to court.

The family of 8-year-old Kaleb Lepe settled with the Kern County Superintendent of Schools for $25,000, according to Rob Meszaros, with the KCSS office.

Kaleb, a special needs student, was supposed to be dropped off Monday at San Lauren Elementary School on Sept. 9, 2013.

Officials think he may have fallen asleep on the bus, and the driver did not see him.
Officials said the boy was left on the bus at the superintendent of schools bus yard on south Union Avenue for nearly six hours. Temperatures reached 98 degrees.
