LAKE ISABELLA, Calif. -
The murder investigation into a baby girl at Lake Isabella continues. Deputies with the Kern County Sheriff's office say the baby was found unresponsive at home and taken to Kern Valley Hospital where she later died.
The baby's parents have lived apart for about two and a half years and are still in shock over their daughter’s mysterious death.
Family members say the baby was in the custody of the mother's live-in boyfriend when she died.
Kevin salmon still can't believe his little girl is gone.
"I received a call and was told to get out to the hospital as quick as possible, something was wrong with my daughter and I made it out there and by the time I walked out there, doctor's have already told us that they didn't have any other ways to bring her back and she didn't make it. I dropped right then into my daughter's grandpa's arms. I've never felt any worse pain then I'm in right now," he said.
According to investigators 1-year-old Sophialynn Marie Taylor was found not breathing in her Lake Isabella home.
"The last time I’ve seen my daughter was maybe right after Thankgiving," he said.
Salmon and the baby's mother, Amanda Marie Reese, 22, are separated. He lives about 15 minutes away from Reese and her now live-in boyfriend, Jared Ramirez, 24, who now faces murder and child abuse charges.
"She was amazing little girl. She was very advance for her age. Comparing her to my son, they were both very advance for their age. Her smile would take you out of the worse mood, you'd ever be in," said Salmon.
Salmon believes his daughter's death was an accident and says Ramirez would never commit murder.
"He went to set her on the bed and her head swung back and hit the bar on the coach bed and it's a pretty hard bar,” he said.
An autopsy is scheduled to be performed to determine the exact cause and manner of Sophialynn's death.
"I don't hold anything against her at all. Accidents happen. This is one mistake that we all need to learn from," he said.
Jared Ramirez has been booked into the central receiving facility in Bakersfield. He is being held without bail. Meanwhile, the baby's mother, Amanda Reese bailed out of jail this morning.
